Dog owners who do not pick up after their pets are being targeted by council street wardens.
Charnwood Borough Council launched its Don't Muck Around in September and has fined 19 smokers for dropping cigarette ends.
In the past few days, two dog owners have been issued with ?80 fines as street wardens pay special attention to dog muck.
It means, so far, offenders could face paying a total of nearly ?1,700 in penalties.
Council regulatory services spokesperson Jane Hunt, said: "I'm saddened we have to go to these lengths to remind people that it is an offence not to clear up after your dog. The council has done so much education around the penalties and impact of dog fouling, yet it is still the number one source of environmental complaint we receive."
Anyone given a fixed penalty notices of ?80 can get that discounted to ?50 if the payment is received by the council within 10 days.
Anyone who doesn't pay the fine after 14 days can be taken to court and if found guilty of an offence could face a fine of up to ?1,000.
Don't Muck Around is a joint initiative with North West Leicestershire District Council and was last year crowned Britain's best environmental campaign at the Keep Britain Tidy Network Awards.
