Whether you work or play with a computer, spend a lot or a little bit of time on computers ? there are some basics that make life on a computer a little easier.? I have been reading through different articles this week to see if there are some basics we can all take care of on our own.? Working here in the office at Stillwaters Estates I hear from people struggling with their computers or laptops.? I see and hear frustration?because of not understanding the computer and having no idea where to begin to solve the problems.? In my online search I was hoping to find the perfect ?Computers for Dummies? website that would be a good reference for us.? My experience says there are some basics that any person who owns a computer should be aware of and be able to perform.
The list?I put together is focused on Security, Maintenance and Gadgets. The weblink articles that I have included are very basic and intended for beginners. ?I found the weblinks in the technology section of AARP.ORG, which is a great resource for the computer challenges we all run into from time to time.? These apply whether you have a desktop or laptop computer:
1.??? Security is the big issue ? make sure that your computer is covered against viruses, spyware and malware.? Most computers are smart enough to tell you if you have issues.? Keep an eye out for the indicators or special messages that tell you of coverage issues.? Here is the weblink article titled ??Understanding your computer security? http://www.aarp.org/technology/how-to-guides/info-02-2011/understand_computer_security.html 2.??? Cleaning your computer is as important as cleaning your house.? Regular and systematic cleaning will keep it healthy and running better.? When you don?t clean it and keep the files sorted and compacted (Called defragging) your computer slows down and can?t give you it?s best performance.? The weblink for understanding this is ?Maintaining your PC? http://www.aarp.org/technology/how-to-guides/info-02-2011/maintaining_your_pc.html 3.??? There are tools that can help you for just about any need you might have.? For PC users there is something called the Desktop Gadget that puts tools at your fingertips and helps organize, remember, control, direct and add efficiency to your computer time.? Here is the weblink titled ?Using Desktop Gadgets? http://www.aarp.org/technology/how-to-guides/info-02-2011/using_the_desktop_gadget.htmlRemember:? Keep a safe and clean computer and have some fun with the?gadgets!
