A business is only likely to achieve its objectives if its employees are used effectively.Human resources management has strategic implications.It must be integrated into the strategic and corporate planning of the business. It means constantly looking for better ways of using employees to benefit the organization. What is involved in the management of human resources. It is often said that it has a 'soft' side and a 'hard' side.?

This mainly concerned with the way in which people are managed. It may include;?

1. How to motivate and satisfy workers.

2. How to develop an organizational culture of approach in employees, for example good relations with customers, flexibility , or quality at all stages of production.

3. How to support and develop employees, for example by training or improving health and safety:

5. Evaluating alternative policies and their likely costs.

There are various methods that a business could use when managing human resources.

The hotel may have decided that its main aim was to provide an excellent service to customers. To achieve this aim, goals would have to be set for the behavior of employees of the hotel, such as always being polite to the customer. It is likely that staff training in customer care would be used to help employees.

There are factors 'outside' a business that could affect human resources management . The hotel would aim to gather as much information as possible to predict the effects of changes in these factors . For example, if health and safety regulations changed that affected the working of the kitchen; staff would need to be aware of these changes and may be need training or support to carry them out. Information about external factors can be found from many sources, ranging from industrial journals to competitors' annual reports.

Analyzing the current situation it is important for the hotel? to be aware of current staff needs. It could do this by? using:

  • Questionnaires to staff and customers:
  • Interviews with staff;
  • Discussions with managers;
  • Performance data;
  • Recruitment or promotion information

A questionnaires given to staff and customers at a hotel, for example, might find that customer service is not as good as it could be at the checkout desk because staff are too concerned about getting the paperwork right. A solution might be to simplify the? for checkout system or sue extra staff at busy times. This would help to motivate employees and improve the chances of meeting the goal of improved customer service.
